Clinical Experience

Nataliya Turchmanovych-Hienkel has a Master of Science degree in Clinical Psychology from Illinois Institute of Technology and is currently pursuing a Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology. She has completed doctoral level clinical training at the University of Chicago Medical Center and an outpatient community mental health clinic, Pillars Community Health. She has conducted psychological and neuropsychological assessments for diagnosis and recommendations, as well as provided individual therapy, family therapy, and group therapy. She has experience working with patients across the lifespan (childhood through adulthood) with a variety of presentations (e.g., anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, PTSD/trauma, adjustment disorders, anger management, relationship challenges, personality disorders, etc.). In addition to working with patients, Nataliya teaches courses at the undergraduate level at the Illinois Institute of Technology and conducts psychological and neuropsychological research, which has been presented at different national conferences.

 

Therapeutic Approach

Nataliya recognizes that each person has unique experiences and utilizes a variety of evidence-based therapeutic techniques (e.g., Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person Centered Therapy (PCT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), etc.), which have been scientifically shown to be effective in helping individuals feel better, achieve their goals, and lead healthier lives.

 

She tailors her therapeutic approach to each client’s individual needs and goals to ensure that she provides a therapeutic environment in which each patient can grow and achieve their personal goals. She sees therapy as a collaborative process and checks in with her patients to make sure that treatment goals are established collaboratively. She is passionate about helping support her patients through challenging experiences, and strives to foster a warm, accepting, and non-judgmental therapeutic environment for her patients.
